Why Organic Ghee Is Superior To Non-Organic

Ghee is a culinary delight that’s been used for centuries due to its delicious flavour and health-promoting properties. Its rich, nutty flavour and high smoke point make it an invaluable inclusion in many traditional dishes.

When it comes to choosing which type of ghee to use in your cooking, you’ve usually got a couple of options – organic and non-organic – and contrary to what many people may believe, the one you opt for can make a huge difference.

In this post we’ll discuss the differences between the two and take a look at why organic ghee is hands down the better choice.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)

When it comes to the nutritional benefits of organic ghee, arguably the biggest is the higher content of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), a polyunsaturated fatty acid that may protect our health in a  number of interesting ways.

Research suggests that as well as aiding weight management, promoting heart health and supporting immune function, CLA may help protect against certain types of cancer.

As a result of the superior, grass-fed diet and production methods, the milk produced in organic dairy farming has a higher content of CLA, so if you’re looking for a product packing full of this fatty acid then you’ve found it!

Omega-3-Rich

Another fatty acid that’s famed for its health-boosting properties is omega-3 and thankfully this is also found in abundance in organic ghee!

Omega-3s play a vital role in supporting heart health, reducing inflammation and promoting brain function. They’re mostly found in fish and flaxseeds, but if you’re a vegetarian who doesn’t want to chew on massive amounts of seeds then ghee can be a great alternative.

Once again, the high amount of omega-3 is down to the cows being raised on a grass-based diet, so if you’re looking for a hearty dose of these healthy fatty acids, pound for pound organic ghee is up there as one of the most abundant products around.

Increased Beta-Carotene Levels

If you’ve ever laid eyes on a pot of organic ghee, you might have noticed it has a richer, almost orangey colour. This intense colouration is down to the high content of beta-carotene, an antioxidant vitamin that’s found in grass.

The presence of this compound not only provides its vibrant colour but also serves as a powerful antioxidant, with research suggesting beta-carotene can contribute to better immune function and improved eye health

When we manufacture our organic ghee, the kinder farming practices mean we avoid synthetic additives which increase the beta-carotene levels, making this an excellent choice for anyone keen to benefit from its antioxidant effects.

Kinder To The Cows

Along with the various health benefits for us, organic ghee is also much kinder to the animals who help us produce it. As well as feeding cows a proper, natural diet free from grains and other unhealthy foods, the rules on organic farming practices mean the animals must be free to roam and graze.

Moreover, organic dairy farmers also eschew the use of hormones and antibiotics. What many people don’t realise is these end up in the milk we consume. But thankfully organic dairy products are free from these potentially harmful substances, providing yet another reason why organic is best!

Enhanced Flavour Profile

Amongst all these health and ethical benefits, it’s easy to forget there’s another massive benefit you get from organic ghee – its incredible taste! As a result of the organic approach to production, as well as the healthy diets the cows consume, the end product is simply superior in quality and taste.

The flavour of organic ghee is often much richer, with delightful buttery undertones that elevate your cooking to another level. This superior flavour makes it an excellent choice for enhancing the taste of your dishes.

So that’s why organic ghee stands tall above standard ghee. As well as having a higher amount of CLA, omega-3 fatty acids and beta-carotene,  it’s also kinder to the cows and tastes better.

Having said that, this isn’t us bashing regular ghee! Organic ghee is more expensive so if your budget will only permit you to purchase standard ghee then you can still reap many of the rewards mentioned above.
