The Golden Health (And Flavour) Benefits Of Turmeric Ghee

In recent years, turmeric has been rightly celebrated for its potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. But when blended with ghee – the nutrient-rich, clarified butter used for centuries in Ayurvedic cooking – its benefits are not only preserved, but actually enhanced.

At our Devon farmhouse kitchen, we make small batches of turmeric infused ghee using only fresh turmeric root and ghee from grass-fed cows. This creates a powerful and versatile superfood that is packed with flavour and goodness.

Why turmeric and ghee work so well together

Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, the active ingredient responsible for its vivid yellow hue and many of its health benefits. However, curcumin is not easily absorbed by the body on its own. It needs two things: fat and heat.

This is where ghee comes in. Our ghee is rich in healthy fats like butyrate and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K), which not only enhance the benefits of turmeric, but also support your body’s own healing processes. The traditional cooking method we use ensures that the turmeric is gently infused without being overheated, thus locking in its potency and flavour.

A natural anti-inflammatory powerhouse

Turmeric ghee is a powerful addition to your wellness routine, especially if you’re looking for natural ways to reduce inflammation. Curcumin has been shown to help with:

  • Joint pain and stiffness

  • Digestive inflammation (e.g. IBS, leaky gut)

  • Skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis

  • Immune system support

Combined with the gut-soothing qualities of ghee, turmeric ghee offers a nourishing approach to supporting your body from the inside out. It’s also a delicious and versatile ingredient that can be used for roasting meat or root vegetables, adding to rice or lentil dishes, spreading on toast, making scrambled eggs and much more.
