The Taste Of The West: A Mark Of The Finest Quality Produce
The Taste of the West is the UK’s largest independent regional food group, and they are dedicated to championing the best local food and drink in the West Country, from Devon to the Channel Islands. They hold events to celebrate the foodie scene, such as the Speciality & Fine Food Fair 2025, and also hold an annual awards programme.
The Taste of the West Awards were established over 30 years ago, and has grown into the most prestigious award programme in the south west, with over 350 entrants every year. Each product is assessed by a panel of judges who have expertise in the industry, such as chefs, food writers, food buyers and other professionals.
The judges evaluate each product based on its taste, but also on the quality of its ingredients, appearance, aroma, texture and packaging. There are three rounds of judging, with champions at each stage and an overall Supreme Champion Product that will be announced at the November awards ceremony.
At Happy Butter, we are delighted that our organic ghee has achieved public recognition from the discerning Taste of the West judges. We believe that this reflects the care and attention to quality that goes into our production methods.
Our ghee is made only with milk from grass-fed cows, who are reared on pastures that are free from pesticides, and with minimal use of chemicals in feed or veterinary care.
Each batch is made weekly in the kitchen at our Devon farmhouse, rather than subject to commercial heat treatments. This means that all the nutritional richness of the ghee is preserved, and we are able to supply our customers with an award-winning product that we are truly proud of.
